Green

.

The lawn is patchy with new growth.

Endless budding branches

crown the magnolia tree.

Where we planted bulbs in fall,

tiny shoots poke through the soil.

All around me, spring is springing forth

from its long winter’s sleep.

Even far-flung family and friends are green;

mired in the snow, they growl in jealousy.
